VIDEO OF REGINA TAKEN at the Stockyard this summer 2009

Here is the first video of Regina taken at the Stockyard before she was rescued. The black/white male you see was euthanized the following week because he fell and broke his foot :) That's no reason to put a defeneseless creature to sleep... But to the meat industry, it is :( Fortunately, Regina is now living a life of Paradise at Animal Acres. We are working hard to fundraise funds to build a sanctuary for her in the Inland Empire...

Vanessa :)

Letter from Lori:

Dear Animal Acres Members,

Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. Your calls and emails of support and concern are helping us more than I can say during this difficult time.

I wanted to let you know that we are all safe, and all of the animals at Animal Acres have been relocated thanks to dozens of dedicated volunteers who came at all hours, and worked tirelessly to make our evacuation possible. While some people remained at Animal Acres, others went to our evacuation site – which though ready to take animals – still needed additional work. The past two days, volunteers have installed wire lines directly to the animal enclosures, constructed additional pen areas, and moved cleaning, health care, and feed supplies and equipment to the evacuation site -- as it now appears that the sanctuary animals will not be able to return until September 15, or later. It breaks our hearts to see the sanctuary empty, but we are very fortunate to still have a sanctuary.

Pigs getting a drink at the evacuation site

Because of the severity and expected length of the fire storm, we have found that we do need your help at this time. We were not expecting to have the animals at the evacuation center for so long, and because of the 100 plus degree temperatures here, we need to construct more shade shelters for the animals, and install automatic waters.
I would be deeply grateful for your support at this time. Donations for these additional evacuation center needs, as well as for the extra expenses we have incurred to relocate animals are now needed, and greatly appreciated. Please click here if you can help, and thank you. It is at times like this, that we are especially touched by your kindness and commitment to making Animal Acres possible.

Lorri Houston, President

P.S. I also wanted to give you an update on our Gala. We are working until the eleventh hour to try and find an affordable venue site for our Gala, and we will be making a decision this evening, based on information we obtain in the next couple hours. We will send you an email no later than Wednesday at noon to let you know if we are relocating or rescheduling the Gala. Thank you for your patience, and understanding.

REST IN PEACE LUCKY

Our beloved beautiful calf Lucky died early this morning at Animal Acres, in peace and in love. She was born on Monday July 6, 2009 in a Slaughter house in Chino, CA along with her brother Nandi who died last Sunday. She was 13 days old. Their mothers were slaughtered the same day they were born for meat. We were so blessed beyond belief to have these two in our lives and forever have them in our hearts. Lucky, your strength, courage, forgiveness, love has awoken in us a beautiful light of compassion. I love you Lucky and will never forget the imprint you have forever made on  my life and the life of others... You died in peace, knowing that you were loved, and it was time for you to go back home with your Mother and your brother, and the billions of animals in heavenly bliss...  With the utmost respect, love and gratitude, may you rest in harmony bliss and happiness forever, your MOMMY Vanessa Hidalgo :)  xxoxoxooxxo   Kisses always on your head....

Update on Regina & Baby Calf... Vanessa Hidalgo will team up with Supreme Master Television at the Animal Rights Conference 2009

Hello Everyone...

Just an update on Regina and our baby calf... Originally she was named "Lucky" because she was believed to be a boy, but she is a female and that is confirmed. We are toying with the name Phyllis, Penny, Esperanza... Still deciding on a name for her. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. We've been calling her "Lucky" at the moment, because she really is lucky to be alive. They are both doing great. "Lucky" has been taking in lots of fluids but still continues to have diarrhea, and this does worry me a bit. But in heart, I know she will make it. Send her a little prayer of strength and vitality, and love of course...

Tomorrow I will be teaming up with Supreme Master Television at the National Animal Rights Conferences 2009 in Los Angeles, CA, conducting interviews and spreading the word for our vegan fundraiser dinner next Friday which I all hope you will attend. If you have never seen Supreme Master Television, you can visit their online positive programming channel at www.suprememastertv.com Truly AMAZING!!! Had a great vegan lunch with Vegan Chef/Author Marilyn Mc Donald, who will be publishing a new cookbook, that describes the transition into veganism. She is an amazing woman. You can visit her website at www.veganbitebybite.com Can't wait till her book comes out! Alright, I'm off to sleep. I send kisses and hugs to all my animal babies at Animal Acres, Regina and "Lucky", all their friends who are still at the Stockyard, all the animals in the world, humans, children, nature... and you all of course... Good night. And please check out these cute pics we took today. More video footage to be posted shorty... love, Vanessa Hidalgo :)

READ MORE ABOUT The Nandi & Friends Animal Sanctuary- a non-profit in the Making :)

Our group, Nandi & Friends is an organization of compassionate vegan artists who grew concerned of the horrible atrocities occurring at the neighboring Dairy Farms and Stockyards in Chino, CA. We hope to build the first Farmed Animal Sanctuary in the Inland Empire and awaken compassion in all beings on earth, towards nature & our animal friends. We believe that each human & animal deserves to live a life free of harm and full of love for the rest of their lives, and that is where we come in. Although we know we cannot save the billions of animals that are slaughtered each year, if we can start with one animal at a time, this will make a difference, all while educating the masses of cruelty-free living and plant based eating, where it is greatly needed in the Inland Empire.

Regina, our 1 and 1/2 year old female cow, and "Lucky" our baby calf are the first two animals that we have rescued from a Chino Stockyard, thanks to the courageous efforts of Vanessa Hidalgo, M. Johnai iDaniel, Isidro & Teresa Hidalgo, all of the people who've donated, Juan, & the lovely family and friends at Animal Acres !!! Both of these babies were transported safely this week and are recovering just fine. We are having ongoing fundraisers every Wednesday in July 2009 at the "Green Market" in the Claremont Village, selling HANDPAINTED "Nandi Rocks" & other vegan treats, and all of the proceeds go towards funding our newly rescued cows (feed, medical expenses, and finding a permanent sanctuary in the Inland Empire).

Join us NEXT FRIDAY JULY 24th, 2009 in UPLAND for a VEGAN DINNER FUNDRAISER!!! All procceeds to towards our newly rescued babies.

Monday, July 13, 2009

Join us for a 3 Course Vegan Dinner Fundraiser Event on July 24, Friday

We will be having our first vegan dinner fundraiser on Friday July 24 in Upland, CA. Dontation is $10.00 which includes a 3 course vegan dinner, salad, entree and dessert... All PROCEEDS go towards helping feed and fund our first two rescued cows, Regina and "Lucky" who are currently staying at Animal Acres in Acton, CA. They were both safely transported with love this week, and are no longer living in the Stockyard :) Thanks for your support. Please RSVP by Wednesday July 22, 2009 at veganactress@gmail.com. Thank you in Advance!!! love, Vanessa :)

Monday July 13, 2009- Transporting baby calf to Animal sanctuary

It's been a while since I've written. A lot has happened. The baby boy were were originally going to adopt with Regina was euthanized 2 weeks ago because he slipped and fell, and apparently he was not going to be allowed with a broken foot. I felt very sad about this. Regina is gaining more weight and seems to be getting along better around her human friends.. Now for some sad news... On Monday July 6, 2009, Nandi, a male calf along with his sister Ananda, were both born in a slaughterhouse in Chino, CA... Their mothers were butchered the same day. I don't know if they recieved colostrum, which is crucial the first 2 days of birth for babies to receive. I saw them in the auction pen on Wednesday and adopted them. They have been at a stockyard since then, and on Sunday I went to visit them and give them water. They both seemed okay. This morning the baby calf Ananda was found dead. Possibly from heat exhaustion. I cried my eyes out this morning, and made some phone calls. I was able to transport the male, Nandi in my car and took him to an animal sanctuary in Acton, CA. He is doing a little better, although is still very week. If you are reading this, send him a little prayer. As for Regina, tomorrow, we will tranport her to this temporary sanctuary, until we find a permanent home for the Nandi & Friends Animal Sanctuary! Thanks for reading... love, Vanessa

Video footage of our first two cows to be rescued

www.youtube.com/veganactress

The Nandi & Friends Project...

Hello... As a compassionate vegan artist, it was beginning to get more and more difficult to remain silent on all of the inhumane ways animals in this country are treated and used, especially for food production. Each week, I teach a Boogie Box Fitness class in Ontario, CA and it would pain me to go, because I had to drive by the dairy farms and see a repeat of what looked like the Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen concentration camps of WWII, in the modern form of dairy/cattle concentration camps. There are hundreds of thousands upon thousands of cows or "cattle" as they say used for milk production and beef. Such horrible ways to describe animals... These animals are born into death, and the only life they see is what is in front of them.

After teaching my Boogie Box Fitness class last week, I had to pull over one of dairy farms and see for myself how these animals were treated. As a vegan of two years, I had seen videos, but never first hand. So I did. And it really affected me. As a result, I drove to the nearest Auction and asked how much it would be for a cow. A man took me back to show me two smaller cows, a heifer and a young steer. A steer by the way is a castrated male. They use rubber bands on his testicles... A way to ease the pain. Not in my book is that a way to ease the pain of anyone or anything.

So I told him that I would like to purchase these cows and have them live their life out in a sanctuary, a place where they could roam free, not be used for milk, or beef, rather to live their life in happiness, peace and freedom.

So this begins the Nandi Project. Nandi, for those who are unfamiliar, is the sacred ride of Shivah. Because we consider ourselves on a spiritual path, and respect the deities, we decided to name this the Nandi Project. We will begin by rescuing one cow at a time, and will add on to rescuing horses, pigs, sheep and chickens, as soon as we raise enough funds to buy a pasture and acres to build an animal sanctuary.

Our first fundraiser is this Wednesday June 24, 2009 at the Green Market in the Claremont Village. Off the I-10 freeway, exit Indian Hill Blvd. head north. We will be selling hand painted "Nandi" rocks, some painted by children volunteers who are passionate about animals as well. The money raised will go towards rescuing these animals....

Thank you for reading!!! We'll keep you informed!!

love,

Vanessa Hidalgo
